Netflix has given the greenlight to a second season of Narcos, their acclaimed drama about Pablo Escobar. The news was announced via the show’s official Twitter account in a ten second video. No dates are included at this point, but it would be safe to assume the second season will launch on the service in the summer of 2016 at the very earliest.
Narcos is a Netflix original series from Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro. The show stars Wagner Moura of Elite Squad fame as the infamous drug lord, and Elite Squad’s director José Padilha sat in the director’s chair for the first two episodes of the show.
The show received positive reviews from TV critics. The Wrap said: “How Escobar rose in power and status to become a murderous megalomaniacal drug lord is as fascinating as it is frightening”. Meanwhile, Patrick Smith at The Telegraph said: “This is drama that commands your utmost attention.”
